The God Made Easy Origin Story
In 1995, I was the single mother of my wonderful then-four-year- old son, Elijah. I was working a full-time job, living by the sea in southern California, and writing (as I always had) about my joys, my sorrows, my dreams.
As a lifelong spiritual seeker, I studied all the esoteric, spiritual, metaphysical, religious, and new age teachings I could get my hands on—always wishing I could figure out my true life’s work. I just knew there was something special that God wanted me to do.
Then came the miracle . . .
On Saturday morning November 11, (11/11!) 1995, I woke from a dream and looked around my room. It was 6:00 A.M. and quiet. Elijah was still sound asleep. I was groggy, yet there it was! Giant bold letters hovering in front of my eyes, forming the words, GOD MADE EASY.
I had no idea why I was seeing this, but I remember thinking, What a great book title! But how could I take that which humankind has pondered since the beginning of time and make God easy? How could anybody do that?
I tried to go back to sleep.
The only way I can describe what happened next is that I was not allowed to drift off again. From deep within me came an inner command: “Get up and write it now!”

Sleep-deprived as I was, I reluctantly grabbed a spiral notebook and started to write.
What occurred next was a most extraordinary experience. The words poured out of me. There was no pausing, no thinking, no rewriting. At exactly 7:00 A.M., it was done. In just one hour, I was holding in my hands a piece of writing I had never planned on and that took my breath away. Though the writing reflected my style, voice, and humor, I didn’t feel I had written it. I am not sure that I would call it channeled, but it sure felt like a dictation of sorts.
Afterward, I sat in bed and pondered what had just happened. What was I meant to do with the twenty pages now scrawled in a spiral notebook? And then, the same inner voice spoke again: “This is to be a book. It will go all over the world reintroducing the great wonder that is God to people of all faiths, and to people who have no faith at all. And now Patrice, your job is to get it published.”
Through another set of miracles, grace, and seemingly sheer magic, I ended up signing my first-ever book deal a short time later with a major New York City publishing house.
When God Made Easy was released in 1997, I became a published author, and my life changed. My little spiritual book soared forth, and letters rolled in from all over the world. From people whose lives were deeply impacted by it and who had written to express gratitude for this little book that found its way into their lives at the perfect time and that brought with it healing, hope, and an inner knowing.
People of all ages and from every walk of life and spiritual path (and many who had no faith at all when they first read it) have reached out: from CEOs, doctors, and stay-at-home moms to convicts, drug addicts, and troubled teens—Buddhists, Jews, and Christians (and even once self-proclaimed atheists)—all sharing with me that the message of God Made Easy helped them feel the Supreme Connection once again and changed them in some way . . . forever.
But then, a few years later, as sometimes happens, the book went out of print.
I’d always believed that it was meant to be re-released, that its message could reach a world that needed it now more than ever. When God’s timing and the book’s destiny came together, my dream came true. Now, so many years after I first wrote it, I am beyond grateful to have the opportunity to share this book and its message of love once more. And this time, with you!
In the same way that my book The Invisible String brings the abstract concept of love and connection into a tangible form for children, I believe that God Made Easy helps simplify God and bring the universal truths closer for adults.
I do not know why I was given the great honor and privilege to share the message that God is here for ALL of us, no matter what name we choose to call Him, Her, It, but I am sure glad I didn’t go back to sleep that morning!
May we respect and embrace the individual roads we all take in our search for God. May we laugh often, cry less, and as brothers and sisters in one global family, celebrate the journey together.
